UNDERFLOOR HEATING & WOODEN FLOOR
Underfloor heating is high in people's choices in recent years due to the many advantages it has.
One of the most common questions of wood fans is whether the wooden floor is suitable for use in underfloor heating. Since wood is a poor conductor of heat, it is a perfectly justified question. However, there are conditions that, if applied, there is no question about the performance of the heating on our floor.
What wood should I choose?
First, we should emphasize that all types of wood are suitable for underfloor heating, with the sole exception of beech.
Oak, walnut, maple iroko, dussie, aformosia, merbau, have the same quality performance in underfloor heating. All we need in the first stage is to listen to our desire!
Solid, semi-solid?
Whatever your choice, solid wood or semi-solid wood consisting of overlapping (two or three) sheets of different wood with the desired wood on the final surface of 3 - 6 mm thickness and both types are suitable for sub-flooring.
Glued or floated;
Both installation methods are suitable for heated floors, provided that some necessary rules are followed:
-One of the most important conditions is that the thickness of the wood does not exceed 15mm.
-Equally important is at the floating floor. to use a substrate suitable for underfloor heating and not a simple conventional one. The appropriate substrate increases its performance by 20%!
-Similarly, for the glued wooden floor, a special primer and glue for underfloor heating must be used.
-It is very important during the operation of the underfloor heating to avoid exceeding the maximum final surface temperature of the wooden floor (28 degrees Celsius)
-Finally, the success of the combination of underfloor heating with the wooden floor depends on the humidity of the substrate during the installation of the coating. This should be much lower than the tolerable moisture content of the wood (6% to 10%), in order not to affect the behavior of the coating (swelling, cracking, peeling) during the operation of the installation.
What about laminate;
In the case of laminate, installation is exclusively floating. Again with the appropriate substrate we have an excellent underfloor heating performance.
